I recently joined Toastmasters (a public speaking practice group) and for my first 'get to know me' speech I decided to speak about why I am amazing.
Most of us have been brought up believing 'It’s not nice to brag!' so you may think that's something you should avoid. But I think we should all brag more, and my hope is that you will all feel comfortable sharing the reasons why you are amazing too!
So, how would you feel if I asked you to tell me 3 reasons why you are amazing? Would you be able to do it?
My bet is that you would feel uncomfortable, it’s far easier to share what we are not good at and bond with each other on our flaws. But our relationship to ourselves is the most important relationship we have.
I have flaws - obviously, I’m human - but that’s not what I choose to focus on and trust me, the more you focus on the reasons why you are amazing, the more reasons you will see. And the more others will see too. As a life coach I help people to realise the amazing gifts they have to offer the world and there are always plenty!
The 3 reasons why I am amazing are:
- I have so much love for others
- I am great at connection
- I am fun and don’t take life too seriously
I am comfortable sharing these things as I know that you are amazing too. My dream is a world where we can all share our triumphs and lift each other up! As we meet people they form split-second impressions of us, so if you show them that you are confident and happy to share your amazingness - that’s what they will remember.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."
You are amazing too!
